SMEs struggle for survival in South Africa

Around the world, in every economy, whether emerging or advanced, SMEs are widely accepted as a significant driver of GDP and the primary job creator. In South Africa SMEs account for around 40% of GDP[1] and, according to the Finscope (2006) survey, 90% of jobs created between 1998 and 2005 were in small, medium and micro enterprises.
