Inyosi – The Bridge Between Capital and Opportunity

Inyosi – The Bridge Between Capital and Opportunity
In South Africa, access to funding has long been one of the biggest barriers standing between a great business idea and real, lasting growth. For black-owned businesses in particular, the gap between ambition and opportunity has often felt impossible to cross, not for lack of potential, but for lack of the right partner. That’s where Inyosi Empowerment comes in. Inyosi is the Nguni word for honeybee, and a beehive is the embodiment of individuals working together for the common good, each one playing a part in something larger than themselves. Since our founding, this has been our guiding principle: that meaningful economic transformation happens not through transactions, but through genuine partnership.

Where It Began
Inyosi Empowerment was established in 2012 in partnership with Stellar Capital Partners Ltd and Mineworkers Investment Company (Pty) Ltd. What started as a focused enterprise development vehicle has grown into one of South Africa’s leading impact investment businesses, with over R1.56bn advanced in more than 370 loans since inception, more than 140 black-owned businesses supported, and a passionate, growing team dedicated to doing things differently. At its core, Inyosi operates as the connection point between two groups with complementary goals: corporate investors who need a credible, value-adding BEE solution, and black-owned SMEs who need access to the funding, markets, and skills to grow. We manage this relationship with care, professionalism, and genuine accountability, ensuring that capital flows to where it creates real impact, and that investors can trust their funds are being deployed with purpose.

For Investors: A Competent BEE Partner
More than 600 investors currently entrust Inyosi with managing their Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) obligations. We provide investors with a fully managed, compliant, and impactful investment solution through our three specialist funds: the Enterprise Development Fund, the Enterprise Development ICT Fund, and the Supplier Development Fund. Our approach is rigorous. Every investment undergoes a comprehensive due diligence and affordability assessment, and all loans require approval from an independent investment committee. We align our portfolio with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals because good investment should mean lasting impact.

For Borrowers: More Than Just a Loan

For qualifying black-owned businesses, Inyosi offers far more than simply access to capital. We see ourselves as a long-term partner in their growth, which means addressing the three pillars we believe are fundamental to sustainable business success:

  • Access to Funding: Competitive loan funding from R250K to R15M, with transparent terms, no hidden fees, and no early repayment penalties. We fund growth capital, working capital, asset finance, and commercial vehicle finance.
  • Access to Markets: Every Inyosi borrower receives a complimentary listing on iHive, our inhouse preferential procurement platform, connecting them directly with our 600+ investor network as potential clients and procurement partners.
  • Access to Skills: Through matched grant funding and the iHive e-Learning portal, we invest in the people behind the businesses we support. To qualify for Inyosi funding, we look for businesses that have a solid foundation and the ambition to grow. We don’t just tick boxes; we look at the full picture. That said, there are three core eligibility criteria that guide our assessment:

To qualify for Inyosi funding, we look for businesses that have a solid foundation and the ambition to grow. We don’t just tick boxes; we look at the full picture. That said, there are three core eligibility criteria that guide our assessment:

Ownership: Your business must be at least 51% black-owned. This is central to our mandate as an enterprise and supplier development vehicle focused on meaningful economic transformation.

Size: We work with Exempted Micro Enterprises (EMEs) and Qualifying Small Enterprises (QSEs), businesses with an annual turnover under R50 million. We also require a minimum turnover or asset base of R1 million, which gives us confidence that there is a real, operating business to support.

Track Record: We look for businesses with at least three years of operational history. This isn’t about being overly cautious, it’s about ensuring we can deploy capital responsibly and set our borrowers up for success rather than strain. Every borrower’s journey is unique, and we approach each application with that in mind. If you meet these criteria, we’d encourage you to reach out, the conversation costs nothing, and could be the start of something significant.

Beyond Lending:
iHive
Inyosi’s impact extends beyond the traditional investment relationship. iHive is our proprietary webbased procurement platform, a curated network that gives our beneficiaries direct access to procurement opportunities within our investor base. It’s a marketplace built on trust, designed to help black-owned businesses win real work with credible corporate clients. Every Inyosi borrower receives a complimentary listing on iHive as part of their loan agreement, giving them immediate visibility with our network of 600+ corporate investors, each of whom is a potential client or procurement partner. The platform is continuously updated with new opportunities, and businesses can build their profiles, showcase their capabilities, and respond to tenders directly through the system. iHive bridges the gap between access to capital and access to markets, ensuring our borrowers don’t just survive, they grow.

Solar
More recently, Inyosi has expanded into the solar sector, providing funding solutions for renewable energy projects, aligning our investment philosophy with the growing demand for sustainable infrastructure across South Africa. Through our solar offering, we provide businesses and property owners with access to funding for solar panel installations and renewable energy systems, helping them reduce operating costs, improve energy security, and contribute to a greener South Africa. Our solar funding solutions are structured with the same transparent, borrower-friendly terms as our core loan products, no hidden fees, no early repayment penalties, because we believe clean energy should be accessible, not just aspirational.

A Partner; Not Just a Funder
We don’t just deploy capital. We build relationships. From the moment a business applies for funding to long after their loan is approved, Inyosi is invested in their success because when our borrowers grow, our investors create impact, and South Africa’s economy becomes more equitable and more resilient. If you’re a business looking for a funding partner who sees your potential, or a corporate investor looking for a meaningful, managed BEE solution we’d love to connect. Welcome to Inyosi.
